Happy Way 2012

9th HAPPY WAY
6 - 7 - 8 - 9 April 2012

PRESENTATION

It is my pleasure to announce to you the 9th edition of the renowned HAPPY WAY, a gay rally for classic cars. This event will occur on Easter weekend 2012, from April the 6th thru the 9th. This event will be hosted by Dominic Leherre and his team, like other Ledorga events such as the RAINBOW TOUR and ELEGANCE CRUISE.

carte-fr-HW2012

The 2012 edition of the Happy Way will be held in the regional natural Park of French Vexin. This region is situated some 35 mls. north-west of Paris but still remained a bit obscure, in spite of the fact that it’s a huge rural land area with a stunning range of natural and cultural heritages. During this event, you will undoubtedly discover many of the sometimes hidden aspects of this nature reserve; e.g. its limestone cliff-like slopes along the river Seine, its luminous landscapes having remained as they were a century ago and its extremely rich history and wealthy heritage, brought on by its proximity to Paris.
The Happy Way is a surprise rally, with a nice competitive element, putting your wit, sense and reactions, but also your knowledge and logic to the test. This one will be no exception, but rest assured that real braintwisters, long-winded or awkward tests will be avoided, in order to preserve the main characteristic of the Happy Way: a relaxing and entertaining weekend filled with discoveries and scenic driving routes.
For general convenience, the road book will be available in French and English and the rally program is provided in Dutch, English, French and German. Please note that this event is intended for classic (e.g. older than 25 yrs.) and thoroughbred or exceptional vehicles (produced in very limited numbers).

I count on seeing you all on the 6th April 2012!

Important notice! Upon receipt of your registration form (for France: incl. your payment by cheque) you’ll receive an individual confirmation of your participation by e-mail or by phone.

ACCOMODATION

You’ll be staying at the Novotel *** Orgeval hotel for all three nights. The hotel is situated some 19 mls. to the west of Paris and quite easy to access by the A13 (Paris <> Rouen) motorway. Accor/Novotel establishments offer on the whole good value for a reasonable price. The rooms are quite spacious, with a sitting area, a minibar, television set, telephone and private bathroom with either a shower or a bath. The hotel also offers an outdoor pool with a terrace; wind and weather permitting, a pleasant place to have a drink. The opening hours of the hotel bar have been extended to midnight for after dinner bar talk or a liquid nightcap.
Please note: the hotel disposes of a private parking, which is locked up at night-time.

PROGRAMME

The event starts on Friday afternoon, the 6 April 2012 at the hotel. There is ample time to check into your room. Dinner will be served and for the last part of the evening, the hotel bar is at your disposal to exchange the inevitable excerpts from your holiday dairy.

Saturday, April 7th. The morning course starts directly at the hotel and leads in the direction of Poissy.
It’ll be a short drive. Poissy has earned some renown by its PSA (Peugeot-Citroën) manufacturing plant. Only, the plant has not always been a PSA site. We will visit the CAAPY museum, which largely reflects the rather chequered history of this car production site. The plant started with a Ford France ensign on the façade. Then it became SIMCA, Chrysler France, Talbot, Peugeot and finally PSA. The museum primarily shows the models that have been built in this factory since the 1940’s. E.g.: Ford Vedette; SIMCA Chambord and Ariane; SIMCA 1000, 1301/1501, 1307; Chrysler 180, 2-Litres; Talbot Samba, Horizon and Tagora…… In all some 70 different models are showed, together with an impressive collection of advertising brochures, neon signs and other period documentation. In all a rather unique collection that avid car enthusiasts like you all surely will appreciate!

The morning drive continues towards the regional natural Park of French Vexin and includes a stopover for lunch in a reserved inn.
The afternoon drive leads towards the town of Osny by means of very scenic and charming country lanes. Once in the town of Osny, you can visit an enticing fire brigade museum, located in the stables of Grouchy castle (the actual town hall of Osny). The < Musée Départemental des Sapeurs-pompiers du Val d’Oise> proposes a trip through the evolution of firefighting, from the 18th century to the present. The exposition starts with the evolution of the profession of the fireman, ranging from manual pumps to powered pumps, of historic fire engines and other means of transportation and last but not least the evolution of their uniforms and personal equipment and giving you a rather nice image of their duties through time. Exceptionally, the grounds and park around the castle will be accessible for Happy Way participants and cars, so do not miss any photo opportunities, especially in the forecourt of the castle.
The last part of the afternoon drive will gently bring you back to the Novotel at Orgeval for dinner. The hotel bar is at your disposal for some after dinner conversation and a nightcap.

On Sunday, 8th April, the morning drive follows the Seine River and some of the limestone cliffs towards the village of Roche-Guyon. In this village you will discover a venue that is laden with history: Roche-Guyon castle. The castle is fused into the limestone cliffs since the Middle Ages. It started its life as a fortress and slowly evolved into the castle and manor house it is today. The castle shows its history by means of a very expressive timeline. A timeline that starts from the original medieval keep and troglodyte dwellings via the extensively restored vegetable garden, state-rooms and the casemates commissioned by field marshal Rommel.

After the visit, the morning drive continues towards a delightful water mill that has been transformed into a restaurant next to a lovely stream. Lunch will be served here and, weather permitting, we strongly recommend a drink on the patio.

The afternoon drive guides you towards the country estate of Villarceaux. This estate is considered one of the finer examples within the French national heritage. It covers some 70 hectare/ over 17 acres and by turns you will discover its fortress (11th century), the manor’s commons (16th century), Ninon’s Pavilion (Ninon de Lenclos was a contemporary of Louis XIV), St. Nicolas’ Tower, the water gardens, the manor (18th century) with its forecourt and last but not least the orangery. The estate has something fascinating for everybody, whether you’re inspired by history, a castle boffin or a garden enthusiast. The last part of the afternoon drive offers some lovely scenic routes thru the regional natural Park of French Vexin and guides you back to the hotel, where dinner will be served, followed by the prize giving ceremony. Naturally, you can flaunt your prize in the bar afterwards.
